I bought it for a new HD tv to only realize that it had no power source. My older stereo used RCA plugs and this did not. The speaker has wire connections. I bought a Sherwood receiver from Radio Shack for <$100 and solved the problem. it sounds good and the new receiver works good with it.

Great sound for a great price! You do need to hook up a receiver to this to get sound. It does not run on its own power source. But I love it!

This is a nice speaker for displays with built in amplifiers, such as my brand new 2012 model Sharp 70" PN-L702B LED backlit touchscreen monitor.Despite the erroneous information offered by some other reviewers, the description of this product is very clear that it is not self-powered. The only "special cables" needed are speaker wires.There is no need for detailed instructions, considering that this product is just a speaker with left and right speaker wire terminals.It's so simple even a caveman could hook it up.Sounds great too!
