This is the first time I've ever offered a review of any purchase I've made, but felt the need to write a few words about this Philips sound bar. Since I have a 3 yr old 46" Philips LCD TV, I wanted to find a sound bar made by Philips. I researched many models and prices. This Philips HTL2151/F7 is very similar to the 2123 model (which I hear is the older versions) but the 2151 has front mounted lights/indicators whereas the older 2123 only has them on the top...where they can't be seen. The front lights do not show any levels for vol, bass, or treble, but will blink when full range is achieved from the little remote. The sound is great in both the standard mode and the "surround sound" mode and the volume is more than loud enough for me, and probably most people in their living rooms or family rooms. My only issue was my big flat screen TV did not have a jack for the recommended optical coax cable...so I just connected the optical cable directly into the back of my Cable DVR set top box thereby bypassing the TV itself. Of course you can also use other types of cables if needed. You need to mute the TV when using the sound bar, or you'll hear an annoying echo effect in the room. The best sound achieved is when only using the sound bar anyway....which is why we buy these things anyway, right?? An additional benefit of bypassing the TV is that I can broadcast Cable generated music only channels thru the sound bar without the need to even turn on the TV. It's like have a Bose Wave radio in my living room. You can also directly connect to the sound bar your auxiliary audio sets, or an audio loaded flash drive in the USB port on the top of the bar. There is also a jack for head phones on the top of the bar. Go to www.philips.com and download or read the Quick Set Up manual or Owner's manual for more details. I highly recommend this sound bar to anyone not wanting to spend a small fortune on more fancy set ups. I bought mine at WalMart 06/08/13 for only $98! From where I come from....that's hard to beat for a great sound.
